Today, global tech companies are copying Chinese concepts, e.g. all-in-one super app like wechat and short video app like TikTok.

China’s ambitions in 5G

China has 5G pilot projects in many cities and hold the most number of 5G patents.

China uses AI on a massive scale

China is using artificial intelligence from paying subway fare or checking into a hotel using facial recognition, to making custom recommendations for online shopping or browsing news online. AI is also used widely for surveillance purposes.

China’s social credit system in reality

China is applying a scoring system to citizens in some cities and scheduled to have national rollout to all citizens by 2020. The system rates everyone from financial & legal records, employment histories, to various aspects on daily life including online behaviors and jaywalk. Those with low score are labeled as untrustworthy and restricted from activities such as accessing financial markets or travelling by air and high-speed rail.
